“Bluefire Stoneware” describes the unique art of Wendy Conover creates at her farm located in Sterrett, Alabama. The stoneware clay art as well as the handmade glazes are high-fired in a custom made 450,000 b.t.u. propane burning kiln. Part of this firing process is reduction, which means reducing the amount of oxygen to the metallic oxides in the glazes thereby altering their color. This process can only be done in a fuel fired kiln. The happy result of all this science is amazing hand sculpted and wheel thrown stoneware that is beautiful as it is useful.
